Dot Kibbee

Dot Kibbee was born in Worcester, MA in 1916, and went to nursing school in New Hampshire. She spent most of her life in Hardwick, VT where she was community nurse for many years. She supported herself and her two sons.  She is still "on call" to many and says she nurses now by listening and painting.

Dot has been a regular at GRACE's community workshops since the mid 1980's. Her style of painting is unique and features heavily patterned renderings of imaginary landscapes inhabited by snakes, butterflies, turtles and tiny people. Her artwork is in many private collections and has been exhibited throughout the region as well as nationally and internationally. She was the subject of a 2004 publication - A Triumph of Spirit Dot Kibbee: Her Life and Art. Dot says that when she paints, "I don't really know what I'm doing but I know it is good when my heart starts beating fast and my face gets all hot and red."
